I think of the story by Arthur C. Clarke, ”The Nine Billion Names of God”, which involves a computer which could easily exist today (and was maybe not outside the realms of possibility back in the 50s when it was published). Yet that story involves a modicum of fantasy and magic too. But I think he meant it kind of tongue-in-cheek. Did he not define magic as unknown technology?

I think, that if a story involves some sort of advanced technology or science, even a fantastical or horrific one, it must be science fiction. Science fiction may not need that to exist in the story, but it only occurs in sci-fi.
