Robert Heinlein's The Roads Must Roll takes place in a world where roads have been replaced by giant conveyor belts, operated by a quasi-military force. We discuss this and how Heinlein's political view sometimes found their way into his stories.

The Heinlein story I often think of is an early 1940s time travel tale, ”By His Bootstraps” (published under his Anson MacDonald pseudonym). I was struck by the time-travellers choice of books he took into the future to start his authoritarian reign of power over the future naive population (kind of like Wells’ ”Eloi” cattle-people.
