The Heinlein story I often think of is an early 1940s time travel tale, ”By His Bootstraps” (published under his Anson MacDonald pseudonym). I was struck by the time-travellers choice of books he took into the future to start his authoritarian reign of power over the future naive population (kind of like Wells’ ”Eloi” cattle-people.
